    • What: The Union Cabinet has approved the historic merger of the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) with the Indian Railways, integrating the coastal route completely with the national network.
    • Details:
      • KRCL was established in 1990 as a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways to construct and operate the 741 km coastal railway line.
      • Before the merger, the equity shareholding was split between the Ministry of Railways (51%) and four state governments: Maharashtra (22%), Karnataka (15%), Goa (6%), and Kerala (6%).
      • The line connects Roha in Maharashtra to Thokur in Karnataka, passing through Goa.

      • The BFS is an indigenously developed, next-generation numerical weather prediction system.
      • It was designed and calibrated by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune.
      • It operates at a ultra-high grid resolution of 6 km × 6 km, enabling accurate micro-level forecasting for blocks and panchayats, which is critical for agricultural planning and early warnings.
      • The system leverages the upgraded supercomputers Pratyush and Mihir with enhanced petaflops computing capacity to run complex weather simulation models.
